How would you describe your business idea to a potential investor (who is not an expert in your particular profession)?
Trees are a valuable asset, just like electricity wires, train tracks or vehicles, costing major cities €10 Million per year. But unlikely in other industries, tree managers don’t make use of data to drive optimum decision making and reduce costs. Our TreeMonitor solution allows asset managers to track tree growth, identify risks to surrounding assets and identify trees in poor health early to drive tree management into the 21st century.
What problem do you want to solve, what is your goal?
There are hundreds of thousands of trees in major cities. Without data, it is impossible to identify trees that need pruning, optimise watering schedules or pinpoint where and why trees are being lost. We provide seasonally updated maps for tree managers and utilities with assets affected by trees to plan and optimise their tree maintenance, allowing them to move from visiting each tree once every 3 years to optimised just-in-time maintenance.
How did you come up with your idea/concept?
We utilised our combined experience as remote sensing experts and asset managers to identify that the tree management industry lacked data for decision making and that satellites could provide the solution.
